Funding for training

MHF members provide courses that are eligible for government funding. Where government funding is not available, employers or learners can fund the courses themselves.

This page outlines how our courses are funded. Individual MHF members can offer more detailed advice on the full range of funding for employers and learners.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships training for 16 to 18 year olds is fully-funded by the government. Training for 19 to 24 year olds is part-funded so employers are expected to make a contribution. Funding for apprentices aged 25 is very limited so employers or individuals are expected to make a part or full contribution.

Foundation learning

Fully funded by the government for 16 to 19 year olds.

Functional skills

Funded as part of apprenticeships courses however if required as stand-alone courses, they can be paid for privately.

NVQs

Usually funded by the government as part of the apprenticeships programme. NVQs can be paid for privately by employers or learners.

Schools programmes

Training programmes for school pupils such as increased flexibility and young apprenticeships are fully-funded by the government.

If you are interested in any of the above programmes, contact a relevant MHF member who will explain exactly what’s involved.
